Cactus Foothills Little League North  DAAMS 7 th Grade Field Improvement Update

You may have heard the Great News that we are receiving a grant of  $110,000 to help light and improve the fields at Desert Arroyo Accelerated  Middle School. We have already started working with the light supplier, the  lighting contractor and various local sources for the necessary dirt for the  project. In addition, we have made a presentation to the school board and have  met numerous times with the district’s facilities department.

While the amount of the award is indeed significant, it represents less  than half of the total projected project cost of $230,000. The source of the  grant, the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority, is excited about our project  for several reasons: (1) they have not invested funds in any projects in our area  of the county, (2) they like their funds being used for lights because they know  it extends the usage of the fields, and (3) they have not yet worked with a local  Little League. Their process is to provide a significant amount, but not the  lion’s share, of the funds necessary because they want the beneficiaries of the  funds to be equally invested financially—whether by raising additional money  or providing it themselves.

The plan for the project is to not only provide lights for the existing 7 th  Grade Field, but to also as a full-sized softball field at the northeast corner of  the existing field. This requires not only the lighting and field improvements,  but also considerable dirt and earthwork. As a result, this project is expected to  continue into the summer.

In order to complete the project, we are in need of additional funding.  Accordingly, we are asking all parents involved with CFNLL to get involved  with the project. Please consider how you can help. For more information,  please see any CFNLL Board member. If you are interested in contributing  financially (or know someone who might be), please pick up a sponsorship  form or two.

Remember, at the end of the day, this project is something for the whole  community—both those playing now and the kids to come in the future.
